I bought this machine because it was heavy duty and said that it would sew through thick layers. I sew mittens out of recycled wool sweaters with fleece liners. This machine has sewn through super thick felted wool without any problems. My last machine tended to break many needles while trying to sew through thick layers. I have probably made about 80 pair of mittens since purchasing and I have not broke one needle yet. It's a great machine for that low price.

I've been sewing for many years, and the sewing machine I had died before an interstate move. I just did without a machine for a few months, and mending piled up. I'd been looking through catalogs and in stores for a replacement. I wanted a "heavy duty" machine for mending jeans and other heavy items, yet one that I could use for everyday projects. This one cost about half the price of one I'd found elsewhere.
I got it up and going easily. It whipped through the mending pile quickly. Then, I altered a very thick mattress pad from a king to a full - this item is nearly an inch thick! It sewed through it without any problems at all. Impressive! Especially when it will also sew very sheer cloth without damaging it at the turn of a dial. The instruction manual is clear and understandable.

I just got my new Singer Heavy Duty Sewing Machine It's rather Cool looking and not that hard to use, I love the way it sews all of the stitchs with just a few flips of the dials this machine is easier to use then most of the machines I had tested out before hand.
I did try this very machine at another store however I bought it at sewing machines plus because I couldn't have found a better price for this Machine
