I am brand new to sewing, been sewing for a month now. I have sewn on six different machines during this month, from a 1950's Pfaff to a computerized high-end Viking. None compare to this Janome. AMAZING is how I would describe it. It is nearly as smooth as butter, accurate food pedal speed (doesn't take off on you), sews through many layers of denim with scarcely a protest, and it does sew beautifully off the edges of fabric; the other machines I have used either tangle, will not finish the stitch or will leave a loop when sewn off the edge, but not this machine. It closes each stitch beautifully, effortlessly. A must-have machine for a beginner sewer. And I think it would have much to offer an experienced sewer as well.
Negatives to be aware of: feed dog drop is located in back of machine under the extension table cover (have to remove table cover to expose free arm to get to it - awkward); accessory tray is not very practical in size/shape and has trouble unlatching and relatching - I kind of have to tip up the machine to get it in or out; does not have as many accessories as some other new machine. These negatives are only a small nuisance, and shouldn't be a deterrent, as this machine is fantastic.

I owned a Janome "New Design" for over 31 years so when it was time to get a new machine, I chose Janome Magnolia from SewingMachinesPlus.com at the recommendation of my sister (a professional seamstress and designer). I just received my new machine this week and it has almost exactly the same features that my "New Design" had only BETTER and it's a LOT more user-friendly! The instruction booklet that came with my machine explains each step far better than the old machine's book. I love sewing on my new Janome Magnolia and would recommend this machine to anyone - from a new beginner seamstress to an old veteran! I love it!
