I bought this machine for myself about a year and half ago when my daughter announced she was having a baby girl. I love to sew and had always wanted an embroidery machine, but was not sure if I would use it enough to justify the expense. Boy, did I prove myself wrong! This is a reasonably priced embroidery machine for novices. I thought I might miss the 5x7 capability, but find all my projects are smaller ones, so the 4x4 hoop is perfect. I have embroidered towels, book bags, dresses,bibs, baby blankets, jacket pockets, pillows, doll clothes......the list goes on and on. Now I am making ABC books for my two infant grandchildren. My husband teases that I will wear the machine out. I say I will just buy another one if I do. Excellent features of needle threading, push button sewing, thread cutting. I just keep my other Brother zig zag machine set up for regular sewing so I don't have to change the machine. I would recommend this one to anyone who is thinking of getting an embroidery machine for the first time ...or the third.

It's a good machine for a beginner excellent price for the combination of embroidery and sewing , but it is limited 4by4 and actually it does less than 4by4 it is very sensitive with the threads for embroidery I wish it does bigger designs looking forward to buy embroidery machine that has bigger hoops and takes cap hoop with reasonable price.

1st let me list what I no longer have to do while sewing.
1. Clipping threads and sweeping threads up after I am done with a project. Because of the auto thread cutting button. It cuts the top thread and the bobbin thread. This helps you to save thread.
2. I no longer have to thread the needle. The self threading feature is so simple I can do it with my eyes close. Thats a plus when you have old eyes LOL.
3. I don't have to drag out my serger and thread it 4 times with thread to match my project. Why ?
When you purchase the optional side cutter which you attached to pressure foot S and use your overcasting stitches it works just like my serger.
4. I can sew with or without the foot control.
5. The LED lighting is great. I can see my dark fabrics very well, and during the day I don't need my table lamp.
5. I like my buttons holes to look very professional. Not only do they look very professional the process is very fast, simple and the stitching is perfect.
6. The stitching on the fabric is very uniform and smooth.
I am still toying around with the embroidery part and so far I am very impressed.
I like this Embroidery sewing machine because it is very easy to use, I can connect it my computer and purchase software that will make it do some of the same things that the more expensive Embroidery Sewing machines do.
Over all I say that this is one of the best values for a embroidery sewing machine.
I suggest this embroidery sewing machine to anyone who is looking for a great value. There are just plain old sewing machines out there that cost the same or more with out the embroidery.

I love this machine! This machine works great for people of all ages, even eight-year-old girls. It has three speeds at the push of a button. It is easy to thread and select and adjust the stitch width and length. The Brother SE 400 is a combination sewing and embroidery machine. Brother has many free embroidery designs on their website. The manuals are very descriptive and easy to follow. Read the manual online before purchasing the machine, you will pleasantly surprise.
