Product Information

An all-purpose air purifier ideal for the home and office. Compact and economical, with the power of HEPA-carbon filtration and the added protection of UV. Ultraviolet technology is a chemical-free approach to disinfection.

AllerAir purifiers feature a high-efficiency filtration system which removes chemicals, gases, odors, and particles, leaving you with clean and healthy air. High-efficiency air cleaners use a Mass Activated Carbon Bed (MAC-B) filter that traps gases, chemicals and odors that most residential air purifiers simply miss. Activated carbon is the material used in military gas masks and can adsorb up to 60% of its own weight in noxious gases, chemicals and odors.

Carbon acts like a sponge on gases and will eventually become saturated by the job it does. Most air cleaners on the market have only a few ounces of carbon sprayed on mesh and fill up almost instantly. However, the AllerAir 4000 Exec has 12 pounds of activated carbon in a 2.5" bed. Having mass amounts of carbon at this thickness allows for the most dwell time of the air with the carbon, which results in more efficient filtration.

AllerAir also uses a full medical-grade HEPA Filter (High Efficiency Particulate Arrestance). HEPA filtered air is 99.97% free of all particulate down to .3 microns; because of this, HEPA is starting to emerge in many medical applications, such as the isolation of patients needing treatment for immunological diseases, burn victims, orthopaedic surgery, etc.

This unit is also equipped with a germicidal UV bulb to help in the filtration of mold, bacteria, viruses and microbes. As the air passes under the UV light, the DNA of the mold, bacteria, viruses and microbes get altered and are thus rendered harmless.

How the filtration system works:

  • 12 lbs Mac-Bâ„¢ carbon filter bed - The activated carbon can trap up to 60% of its own weight in gases and odors.
  • HEPA filter - The HEPA filter traps airborne particles such as dust mites, pollen, mold and animal dander. It traps 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns.
  • Cleanable pre-filter - This pre-filter stops larger particles from clogging the HEPA and carbon filters.
  • Anti-microbial filters - Two anti-microbial filters surpress microorganisms.
  • Metal housing with baked enamel finish prevents off-gassing.
  • Cylindrical shape maximizes air flow - Air flows through the filters and is then circulated out through the top of the unit.
  • Effective for up to 1200 square feet - The motor runs at any one of 3 chosen speeds to allow rapid room cleaning or quiet overnight use.

More on AllerAir UV Technology:

  • How does a germicidal UV lamp work?
    - Germicidal ultraviolet lamps are used in both water and air purification. These lamps emit UV energy which breaks down organic matter and destroys the DNA of biological contaminants. The process is effective, cost-efficient and requires little maintenance.
  • Where is the lamp and how long does it last?
    - The UV lamp is located inside the top section of the unit, above the filters. The average life span of a UV bulb is 10,000 hours.
  • Where is UV technology used?
    - Hospitals, dental offices, food processing plants, laboratories, and computer "clean" rooms

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why should indoor air quality concern me?
A: Today's modern homes are sealed tight to insulate us from the cold and heat, and as a result, air circulation is kept to a minimum. Our indoor air contains minute particles such as dust, pet dander, pollen and mold spores that can aggravate asthma, allergies and other respiratory problems. In addition, many of today's cleaning products, furniture, carpets and building materials release chemicals, which also end up in the air we breathe. What's most sobering is that fact that while our bodies have natural defenses against airborne particles, we have no natural defense against airborne chemicals! These, in fact, can go straight into the blood stream! A high-efficiency air cleaner can help neutralize airborne particles, chemicals and odors. However, make sure you buy a purifier that contains both carbon and HEPA filtration to trap the particles, chemicals, gases and odors. So many people are disappointed when they bring home an off-the-shelf unit that does nothing for odors and airborne chemicals. An AllerAir air purifier with carbon and HEPA is an investment that can help you and your family live in a cleaner, healthier environment.

Q: What are the advantages of using a carbon filter rather than a cheaper electrostatic filter?
A: While electrostatic filters help collect dust particles, they cannot remove chemicals and odors from the air. An activated carbon filter actually traps chemicals, gases and odors. This, combined with a HEPA filter, offers you the most efficient air purification possible. Granulated Activated Carbon (GAC) has the strongest adsorption power of any material known to man. In one pound of carbon there are over 200 miles of tiny pores to trap gases and odors. It's safe, cost-efficient, and so effective that the military uses it in their gas masks!

Q: Why offer a UV lamp on an air purifier?
A: A UV lamp offers the added benefit of sterilizing any bacteria, viruses or mold mycotoxins that may be present in the air. The UV actually destroys the reproductive DNA of these organisms. This kind of sterilization is highly effective and has been used in hospitals, laboratories and medical facilities since the 1930's. The UV lamps Allerair employs do not produce ozone.

Q:Why are these models cylindrical?
A: In square units, stale air can actually get trapped in the corners. Cylindrical units maximize air flow and therefore can clean better.

Q: How many changes of air per hour are these air purifiers capable of?
A: There is a simple formula based on the CFM rate (cubic feet per minute). If an air purifier has 400 CFM that means that it can filter 400 cubic feet of air in one minute. That means that in a 7200-cubic foot room (30' x 30' x 8') where 30% of the space is taken up by furniture, an air purifier working at 400 CFM will perform approximately 5 complete air changes per hour. Every 12 minutes you will get clean air.

Q: Why does AllerAir use so much carbon when other manufacturers only use a small amount?
A: More carbon equals more adsorption, which simply means fresher, cleaner air. AllerAir carbon is specially activated with oxygen which opens up thousands of tiny pores in the carbon. The chemicals, gases and odors actually get trapped in these pores. The more carbon you have the more you can trap.

Q: How easy is to change the filters? Do you provide instructions?
A: The filters are very easy to change and can often be replaced in less than a minute. Just pull out the old one and pop in the new one - it's that simple. If you have any questions, all units come with an instruction manual. AllerAir can also be contacted via telephone for support if you're having trouble.

Q: How often should I change my pre-filters? What about the carbon filter and the HEPA filter?
A: That depends on the environment you're using the purifier in. Under normal circumstances, you should vacuum or replace the pre-filter every three months. AllerAir pre-filters can be acquired in packages of 4, 8 or 10. The HEPA filter should be changed after three to five years, while the carbon filter should be changed after two to three years.

Q: Who needs an air purifier?
A: That question is difficult to answer; it's a bit like asking "Who needs to exercise more?" Everyone breathes dangerous chemicals and particles every day, and thus everyone could use an air purifier. However, some people are far more at risk than others, and these people will feel more of the positive effects of breathing cleaner air. This group includes, but is certainly not limited to, the following people:

  • People with asthma or other respiratory diseases, and/or allergies to mold, dust, pollens or pet dander
  • People who suffer from chemical allergies, chemical sensitivities, are irritated by odors, or have MCS (multiple chemical sensitivities)
  • People who are immuno-compromised and are more susceptible to bacterial or viral infections (such as HIV patients)
  • Anyone who works with dangerous airborne substances. Many professions fit under this umbrella including manicurists, welders, artists and laboratory workers.
  • Those whose homes or offices have a radon contamination problem
