AllerAir purifiers feature a high-efficiency filtration system which removes chemicals, gases, odors, and particles, leaving you with clean and healthy air. High-efficiency air cleaners use a Mass Activated Carbon Bed (MAC-B) filter that traps gases, chemicals and odors that most residential air purifiers simply miss. Activated carbon is the material used in military gas masks and can adsorb up to 60% of its own weight in noxious gases, chemicals and odors.

Carbon acts like a sponge on gases and will eventually become saturated by the job it does. Most air cleaners on the market have only a few ounces of carbon sprayed on mesh and fill up almost instantly. However, the AllerAir 4000 Exec has 12 pounds of activated carbon in a 2.5" bed. Having mass amounts of carbon at this thickness allows for the most dwell time of the air with the carbon, which results in more efficient filtration.

AllerAir also uses a full medical-grade HEPA Filter (High Efficiency Particulate Arrestance). HEPA filtered air is 99.97% free of all particulate down to .3 microns; because of this, HEPA is starting to emerge in many medical applications, such as the isolation of patients needing treatment for immunological diseases, burn victims, orthopaedic surgery, etc.

This unit is also equipped with a germicidal UV bulb to help in the filtration of mold, bacteria, viruses and microbes. As the air passes under the UV light, the DNA of the mold, bacteria, viruses and microbes get altered and are thus rendered harmless.

Q: How many changes of air per hour are these air purifiers capable of?
A: There is a simple formula based on the CFM rate (cubic feet per minute). If an air purifier has 400 CFM that means that it can filter 400 cubic feet of air in one minute. That means that in a 7200-cubic foot room (30' x 30' x 8') where 30% of the space is taken up by furniture, an air purifier working at 400 CFM will perform approximately 5 complete air changes per hour. A: That depends on the environment you're using the purifier in. Under normal circumstances, you should vacuum or replace the pre-filter every three months. AllerAir pre-filters can be acquired in packages of 4, 8 or 10. The HEPA filter should be changed after three to five years, while the carbon filter should be changed after two to three years.
